be prevented if they would use remedies that are simple, harmless, and inexpensive.

Charcoal poultices with smartweed will do much to relieve womb inflammation. A high enema should be take, and if there is colon trouble, use herb enemas, such as burdock root, yellow dock root, bayberry bark, or witch hazel. The foregoing herbs are excellent for enemas, douches, or both. If there is any soreness or piles in the rectum, inject a little healing herbal tea as given in this section on Hemorrhoids or Piles.

Do this with a small syringe and warm the solution before using. When there is laceration, ulceration, or tumors, make a strong tea of one of the following: white oak bark, witch hazel bark, golden seal, myrrh, or wild alum root. Use a heaping teaspoonful of herb to a pint of boiling water. Use this in a douche. These teas are very disinfectant and healing.

An exceptionally fine solution is a rounded teaspoonful each of golden seal and myrrh steeped in a quart of boiling water and used as a douche.

Some precautions to observe when your monthly period first arrives are well worth their seeming inconvenience. Stay off your feet as much as possible and keep your hands out of cold water. In the winter and during cold weather, do not go to bed with cold feet. Take a hot footbath on retiring or use a hot water bottle or an electric pad or blanket. A gallon jug of hot water at the foot of the bed is excellent.

Fomentations are a great household weapon, as they will relieve much suffering and pain. They are very beneficial when applied to the lower spine and abdomen of a woman suffering with menstrual cramps.
